The Corsican black bee is our heritage, and our beekeeping DNA AOP Corsican Honey – Mele di Corsica

The qualities of the Corsican bee are recognized: ability to forage on the flora of the scrubland, hardiness, adaptation to high heat.

It is certainly said to be swarming, and sometimes even aggressive; but it is up to us to monitor the swarming and select the most peaceful strains; most of the time I work with my bare hands without being stung.

To select the queens and swarms that we offer you, our first selection criterion is respect for the Corsican ecotype of the black bee.

Then our criteria are:

• Hygiene, hygienic bees are more resistant to diseases and varroa.

• The meaning of saving, that is, net honey production (honey produced – feed), we prefer a colony that produces 15 kg of honey and consumes 1 kg of feed, to one that produces 20 kg of honey and consumes 10 kg of feed (…).

• Softness makes work more pleasant and faster.

Our breeding and selection apiary is in Cap Corse in Santa Catalina (Sisco).

For the future, we are creating "F.0" lines by instrumental insemination which allows us to control the genetics of the male lines and the queens; we will still need a few years to test and stabilize these F.0 and offer them for sale to you, patience...
